Paul Meredith -
A date has been set for the commencement of a national system to register business names - 28 May 2012.
The national registration system will mean that businesses pay one fee and face only one process to register a business name in all states and territories across Australia.
Commencement by the date announced is still subject to the passage of legislation through state and territory parliaments.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) will administer the new national business names register. ASIC has released a regulatory guide and a page of Frequently Asked Questions about the new service.
ASIC have also indicated that they will conduct a national Business Names Roadshow that will provide information about the new national business names register to help industry understand:
The roadshow is expected to visit every state and territory capital during April and May 2012 and a podcast of the roadshow will be made available on the ASIC website. You can subscribe at their website to be advised on further details in due course.
