Podcast - Training and development audit - 31 August 2009 
 
All full-fee paying members and affiliates are obliged to meet the Training and Development requirements. A random selection of those full-fee paying members and affiliates is made each year for the Training and Development audit. Once selected, the audit will proceed as follows: 
 
Step One 
 
Once selected for a Training and Development audit, members will be sent the following request: 
 
“In keeping with the professional nature of the Chartered Accountant designation, members of the Institute are expected to keep abreast of current business practice and maintain a timely focus on developments in their area of employment. 
 
In so doing, members are required to undertake Training and Development and to complete a minimum of 120 Qualifying Hours each triennium. This requirement can constitute 90 formal hours, plus 30 hours of technical reading. 
 
An audit of members’ Training and Development activities is conducted on an annual basis and your name has been chosen at random for the 2___/__ Training and Development triennium audit. 
 
Would you please provide written details of your Training and Development activities for the audit period 1 July 2___ to 30 June 2___, including the following: 

  • Description of the activity undertaken
  •  
  • Date of the activity
  •  
  • Organisation presenting the activity
  •  
  • Number of Qualifying Hours
Details of Training and Development requirements, the types of activities that satisfy these obligations and the grounds for exemption are set out in Regulation 7 and can be viewed on the Institute’s website. 
 
Information about the audit process and FAQs about Training and Development are also available on the website. 
 
Keep in mind that from 1 July 2004, those members who hold a statutory registration are obliged to complete at least 40% of their Training and Development requirement in each of the appropriate specialty areas. If applicable, members should confirm any registrations held and indicate the Training and Development activity as it applies to each registration. 
 
1) MAIL OR EMAIL YOUR TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT RECORDS 
 
You may wish to use the Training and Development Record Form which can be downloaded from the Institute’s website at the following link -http://www.charteredaccountants.com.au/files/documents/TDRecordForm.pdf
 
Once completed, you can email the form to training.audit@charteredaccountants.com.au, or fax or mail to the address provided below. 
 
2) UPDATE YOUR TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT HISTORY ON THE WEBSITE AND ADVISE OF THE UPDATES 
 
Log in on the Institute’s website – charteredaccountants.com.au – using your member login details: 
 
Username – membership number  
Password – ddmmyyyy (date of birth is in eight digit format. So if your date of birth is 1 Jan 2001, your password will be 01012001).  
 
If you experience any difficulties with logging in, call 1300 137 322 or email service@charteredaccountants.com.au
 
Click on the My Education tab in the middle of the screen, and select Professional Education from the dropdown options. Choose the Add New button to update your Training and Development activities. 
 
Once completed, simply email training.audit@charteredaccountants.com.au advising that your Training and Development information is up to date.”

Step Two 
 
Once your response has been received, a member of the Professional Standards team will review your Training and Development details. If you have satisfied the Training and Development obligations, you will receive confirmation of compliance. 
 
If there is a shortfall in your Qualifying Hours, you will be contacted by Professional Standards to discuss the matter further. 
 
Similarly, a request for exemption will be reviewed and a response confirming the exemption, or requesting more information, will be despatched.
