The Chartered Accountants Program is also available in Malaysia and Singapore.
Malaysia
In February 2009, the Institute signed an agreement with the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) to facilitate delivery of the Chartered Accountants Program in Malaysia.
From September 2009, new candidates will enrol in the MICPA-delivered course. Upon completion of this Program, you will be eligible to apply for membership in both countries. Candidates will study five program modules, including a customised tax module that reflects Malaysian tax regulations.
More information about the MICPA-delivered Chartered Accountants Program will be available before Term Three modules open for enrolment in July 2009.
Singapore
Because the Chartered Accountants Program is a gateway to membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, all modules offered in Singapore are based on Australian accounting and auditing standards and legislation.
While undertaking their module study, Singapore-based candidates must work in an Institute accredited organisation and be mentored by a Chartered Accountant. If you work for an organisation which is not accredited, but employs an Australian Chartered Accountant, your organisation can apply for Institute accreditation.
Focus sessions
Group (or focus) sessions are an important part of the Chartered Accountants Program learning techniques. They build real-life business knowledge and skills in communication, co-operation and negotiation.
In Asia, if there are sufficient numbers, the focus sessions are held in an intensive format over two days, usually over a weekend.
If enrolment numbers are low in one location candidates may be required to travel to attend the focus sessions. Candidates are notified of focus session dates and venues after the late enrolment closing period.
Accredited organisations in Asia
Asia-based candidates must work in an accredited organisation mentored by a Chartered Accountant like their Australian-based peers. If you work for an organisation, which is not accredited, but employs an Australian Chartered Accountant, your organisation can apply for accreditation. There is some flexibility in these rules. Information about the rules and the service requirements can be found in the Chartered Accountants Program Regulations.
