The Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting

The Chartered Accountants Program is the Institute’s postgraduate accounting program that on completion earns you a Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting. This qualification can be used to gain exemptions to over 60 masters degrees offered by universities around Australia.

The Program includes five modules, studied one at a time, and the simultaneous completion of three years practical experience under the guidance of a Chartered Accountant mentor.

The five modules:

  • Audit & Assurance

Explains the framework for auditing and assurance and includes topics such as legal and professional requirements, conducting audits, risk, fraud, internal controls, ethics, reporting and assurance and audit related engagements.

  • Financial Accounting & Reporting

Gives an understanding of the framework for financial accounting, and identity and apply fundamental standards and pronouncement. Content includes: disclosures and consolidated financial reporting, cash flow statements and the practical application and understanding of ethics.

  • Management Accounting & Analysis

This module explains how to apply the core concepts of management and strategic accounting. Topics include forecasting and budgeting with decision tools and investment analysis tools and techniques, corporate finance and risk management, strategic planning and analysis, ethics and corporate governance, and performance reporting.

  • Taxation

Teaches how to analyse and apply information relating to taxation law including the environment and regulatory framework. Topics include the Australian tax system, application to entities including capital and non-capital assets, GST, FBT, international transactions, tax administration, ethics and advice.

  • Ethics & Business Application

This is the fifth and final module and provides a consolidation of the learning from the technical modules. This module draws heavily on your work experience to apply what you have learnt to solve real business problems, aware of ethical dilemmas and corporate governance issues.

The Practical Experience

The purpose of the three-year practical experience is for you to build on your academic qualifications providing the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge and develop the professional skills and values of a Chartered Accountant.

It is in the workplace that you will face real professional issues and opportunities to build your career.

Program delivery

The Program is delivered in a blended learning model comprising:

  • face-to-face focus sessions
  • comprehensive self-directed study materials
  • specialised online learning portal, myCA – that is the vital link between candidates and contact with the module support team.

The comprehensive learning pack contains all the core knowledge required for success in the Program.

Results for each module are based on an extension project and examination in addition to short quizzes and assessment of focus session contribution and participation.
