We welcome applicants who do not have an accounting degree. It has been proven that graduates with a non-accounting background can excel as Chartered Accountants.

There are three routes for non-accounting graduates to take to qualify for the Chartered Accountants Program:

  1. Graduate Conversion course: available from most Australian universities – refer to Graduate Conversion Course section of the Accredited Tertiary Courses
  2. Entrance exam: available for non-accounting graduates with significant on-the-job accounting experience and employer support
  3. Graduate Certificate of Chartered Accounting Foundations: available from Deakin University as a part-time distance course covering the core accounting knowledge areas.

Once qualified, then simply follow these steps:

  • Commence employment with a Chartered Accountant recognised organisation
  • Enrol in your Chartered Accountants Program modules once you have accrued at least six months work experience with a recognised organisation
  • Undertake three years mentored work experience known as the Practical Experience requirements. Read more about the Practical Experience Requirements.
