The Institute’s annual report on professional conduct has been published, outlining the key results and achievements during the last financial year.

This is the Institute’s third annual report on Professional Conduct, outlining the top-line results to June 30, 2008. The report serves to inform members, regulators and the public about the activities of the Professional Conduct function and its jurisdiction, and to highlight the Institute’s achievements during the year.

Highlights
In 2007-2008, the Professional Conduct team initiated investigations into 259 formal complaints or other issues concerning the conduct of its members that came to the Institute’s attention (for example, as the result of action by regulators or the courts), down from 317 the previous year. As a result of these investigations, 27 members were called to appear before the Professional Conduct Tribunal.

Over the last three years, the Institute has consistently improved its complaint handling procedures and has conducted international benchmarking with other major accountancy bodies to ensure it continues to meet or exceed global best practice.

Improvements to member communications channels, including the Member Complaints & Discipline section of the Institute web site, e-Bulletin, Chartered Accountants Local News and Charter magazine, ensure members are kept abreast of Institute changes or changes in regulation and of their obligations in consequence.
