The Forensic Accounting Special Interest Group (FASIG) was formed in 1998. In 2008 and the group has grown and currently has 860 subscribers.

The aims of the FASIG are to assist Chartered Accountants to maintain high professional standards and to promote a better understanding of the value of forensic accounting services to groups, such as the judiciary, who use or rely on the work of expert accountants.

The group celebrated its 10 year anniversary this year and a South Australian meeting was held at Chesser Cellar on Monday, 23 June 2008 with Andrew Ross, National Chair of FASIG presenting to celebrate this milestone.

Andrew’s topic Forensic Accountant – Who’d be one? Provided Andrew with the opportunity to discuss his experiences as an expert witness and an investigator, he also entertained the audience with some very unique stories. Andrew also spoke about the future growth of the FASIG..

He introduced the new South Australian committee member, Jean Pierre du Plessis from Ferrier Hodgson and advised that he would be stepping down, with Owain Stone from Korda Mentha taking over as National Chair of the FASIG committee.

While the Institute’s general Code of Professional Conduct sets very high standards that all members are required to observe, it was thought that a guide specifically tailored for those working in this area would be of even greater benefit and would demonstrate to the users of these services a commitment to quality. As such Andrew then focused on APES 215 Exposure Draft formerly APS11, the Statement of Forensic Accounting Standards and the related Guidance Note GN2.

He encouraged all attendees to read the document and provide any feedback to the APES Board by Tuesday, 29 August 2008.
