Member benefits: The Institute has a number of career tools that can assist members in their careers. The Career Centre of the Institute is a case in point. This resource centralises information for members and offers assistance with recruitment processes and practices. For jobseekers, this includes advice on resumes, online applications, interviews, assessment centre’s and a career development tool. For employers the centre includes industry insights and information on how to attract, recruit and retain staff.

There are developments coming on line all the time to help members navigate a range of issues in their professional environment. For more information please go to the Institute’s website and view the following links charteredaccountants.com.au/mint and charteredaccountants.com.au/jobs

Henry Review: Many of you will be aware that the Federal Government has announced it will conduct a wide ranging review of taxation in Australia and will be consulting industry over the coming months.

The Institute intends to be a contributor in the consultation process and will be inviting members to provide their feedback at the appropriate juncture. More information will be provided to members about the consultation process shortly.

Events: Despite the rain and wind, the 8th Annual Netball and Basketball Tournament was held on Sunday, 14 September 2008 at the Bicentennial Park Netball Courts in Willoughby. Enthusiastic teams arrived and had a great day. The winning teams were:

  • Open Netball and A Grade Netball: Macquarie Partners (Central Coast)
  • C Grade mixed Netball: WHK Horwath
  • D Grade mixed Netball: Younis & Co
  • Mixed Basketball: Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu
Congratulations to the winners and for their endurance in turning up on such a dreary day!

Our very popular Touch Football competition usually enjoys better weather and is scheduled for Sunday, 19 October 2008 at Valentine Sports Park, Meurants Lane, Glenwood.

American Express subscription winner: I am delighted to be able to congratulate Belinda Trimble of IAC Robertson & Co who won a $3000 Westfield voucher. Two members won a voucher this year by paying their membership fees on line before 20 June 2008 with their Chartered Accountants American Express card.

Worker status and WorkCover: WorkCover have approached the Institute to publicise a service developed to assist in promoting awareness of worker status under WorkCover. During recent consultation with businesses WorkCover found there was a high reliance on advice provided by accountants in relation to workers compensation obligations. An introduction to the worker status service is available from the WorkCover website at www.workcover.nsw.gov.au
