Chris George FCA
NSW Council: At its meeting on Monday, 25 August 2008, the Council discussed issues arising from the previous meeting, outcomes of the recent Board meeting, T&D requirements for financial planners, Council succession planning, members’ feedback to Councillors and requirements for the liability capping scheme. The meeting was held at Woolworths Ltd, hosted by Peter King, NSW Councillor and General Manager of Supermarket Finance, and was followed by a small cocktail function for members in the Hills district to enable them to meet their Council representatives.

The next meeting of Council will be held on Monday, 13 October 2008. The NSW Region Annual General Meeting will also be held at 5.30pm on the same day and, as in previous years, will include a presentation to members celebrating their 25, 40 or 50 years of membership. General business of the meeting will be to provide a report to members and to announce the results of the 2008 Council election. I would like to encourage members to attend the NSW AGM and presentations in support of their colleagues celebrating these significant career milestones.

Member contact: In August, Councillor, Bruce Gleeson, accompanied by Pamela Lee, Relationship Manager for SMPs, hosted two member contact breakfasts in Penrith and Parramatta. These breakfast briefings included an update by Catherine Kennedy CA, Professional Standards Consultant, on the requirements of the Institute's Liability Capping Scheme. The NSW Council also strongly supports the formation of training communities for Institute members in suburban and regional areas of NSW. Following on from earlier regional discussions, Pamela Lee and Gina Hajdu, Business Manager NSW/ACT, Training & Development, will be meeting with members this month in Wagga Wagga and Albury.
