The Institute is asking Tasmanian members to help persuade government that a limitation of liability scheme is needed in Tasmania.

Representatives of the Institute, and other stakeholders, recently met with the Tasmanian Attorney-General, the Hon David Llewellyn to discuss the obstacles to achieving an effective scheme for members in Tasmania.

The inconsistencies between the Tasmanian Professional Standards Legislation (PSL) and PSL in other states and territories were discussed as well as the impact on Tasmanian members of not participating in the national framework of liability capping schemes.

The Minister agreed to give the issues further consideration and to consult with his department in determining whether the Tasmanian PSL should be harmonised with the legislation in the mainland states and territories.

Members can speak out
Now is a good time for Tasmanian members to contact their government representative to support the changes to PSL to ensure its consistency with PSL in other states and territories. Members may choose to write a letter or email to their MP, using this sample written communication
