The Institute is pleased to announce that more than 2700 practices have so far responded to the liability capping questionnaire. This is welcome news and the Institute would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to do this.

However, some practices have still not completed and returned a questionnaire This is a new and ongoing obligation that all practices in mainland Australia must fulfil. Completion is mandatory and members have until Tuesday, 31 March 2009 to respond.

Difficulty completing the questionnaire?

Why is the questionnaire so important?

This year, the liability capping scheme regulators and government will review data to assess whether the schemes are effective – and should be continued.

It was a condition of getting the schemes approved that this information, required under Professional Standards Legislation, be collected. As this data is not otherwise available, the Institute has to ask members for it directly via the questionnaire

Confidentiality is assured

Responses will be treated as confidential and protected by privacy law. Only aggregated data will be reported to the regulator. The online questionnaire has been encrypted to provide added security.

Who should complete this questionnaire?

In the first instance, the Institute wrote to one Certificate of Public Practice holder in each practice, asking them to respond on behalf of the firm, or get the appropriate person in the practice to do this.
