Last night, Monday, 13 October, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (the Institute) held its NSW AGM and members’ ceremony which marked a special occasion in acknowledging the achievements of long-standing 25, 40 and 50 year members.

Founding Partner, 10 year National Chairman and member of the International Council of one the largest second tier accounting firms, Horwath & Horwath, Mr Graham Connolly, a member of the Institute for 50 years, was among many Institute members to be recognised at the Institute’s NSW members’ ceremony yesterday.

Admitting that the idea of retiring to endless games of golf was not a big enough incentive to put a stop to his career, Mr Connolly has continued to develop his profession despite being 72 years of age.

After resigning as National Partner at Horwath & Horwath in 1991 which he formed as a result of a merge between nine accounting firms, Mr Connolly decided to open an advisory business, Family & Private Business Advisors Group where he now offers succession solutions for family businesses. He also wrote a business book and currently runs a series of seminars for Family and Private businesses.

Ms Lisette Cochineas, New South Wales General Manager for the Institute, said: “We have a high regard for members such as Graham who are renowned for their calibre in the industry, offering more than 30 years’ experience.”

“Long-standing members have contributed significantly to the growth and development of the Institute over the last 80 years, which has helped to shape its foundations today,” continued Ms Cochineas.
