The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia today announced the appointment of Andrew Arkell to the role of President for 2008.

Arkell’s appointment follows a series of posts he has held for the Institute, both on Queensland Regional Council and as a board member from 2004 to 2007. As President, Arkell will lead the board in setting and governing the strategic direction of the Institute.

Announcing Arkell’s appointment, Graham Meyer, Chief Executive Officer for the Institute said “Andrew has represented the membership in various roles for the last nine years so is well placed to lead the board and ensure the Institute meets its strategic objectives.”

Based in Queensland, Arkell is the Head of Corporate and Advisory Services at fund management firm Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) and has more than 24 years business experience to draw on. His roles in Chartered Accounting firms, government and in commerce will help Arkell understand the diverse needs of 46,000 members.

Commenting on his appointment, Arkell said, “Accounting is a profession that is increasingly diversified as more demands are placed on business. Chartered Accountants play an integral part in the Australian economy and I am looking forward to representing all sides of the membership in this important role.”

The Institute also continues to strengthen it’s role in the global economy as a founding member of the Global Accounting Alliance that brings together 700,000 of the world’s leading professional accountants.
