“The careful balance of longevity and change is key to leadership success,” said Brian McNamee, CEO and MD of CSL Limited and last year’s Chartered Accountants Business Leader Award overall winner.

McNamee was commenting on his 18 years of heading up successful Australian public company CSL, which helped earn him the 2007 Business Leader Award.

CSL is a group of companies that develops, manufactures and markets pharmaceutical products of a biological origin.

“At CSL I have been fortunate my role has changed with the privatisation of the company in 1994 and through fundamental research developments that has ensured the organisation is constantly evolving to meet the demands of a highly competitive and global pharmaceutical market,” said Mr McNamee.

“Being able to combine the corporate memory of long-term management with a fresh and energetic approach to new market demands is essential for leadership success,” Mr McNamee continued.

As CSL expanded into global markets under McNamee’s direction, the Australian biopharmaceutical company retained its corporate office in the key research and development precinct of Parkville, Melbourne, with operating offices located near manufacturing facilities around the globe.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and partner Perpetual are gearing up to announce the winner of the 2008 Chartered Accountants Business Leader Award on Friday, 14 March 2008 at Luna Park in Sydney.

“The Business Leader Awards is a prestige event and it is great for CSL to have been associated with it. In an environment where the term ‘businessman’ can be used negatively, the Business Leader Awards has always awarded longevity and sustainable business performance,” said Mr McNamee.

“With the strong economic conditions in 2007, I look forward to seeing who the winner is in 2008,” Mr McNamee concluded.
