Seventeen year old, Hale School student, Alex Maftei will be announced the winner of the Institute of Chartered Accountants ‘Most Outstanding Accounting Student Award’ at a prestigious award ceremony being hosted tomorrow in WA’s the oldest independent boys’ school.

Alex will receive $550 (GST inclusive) in funding from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, which will be presented at 12.30 tomorrow by the Institute’s Regional General Manager, Con Abbott.

The Award was launched by the Institute of Chartered Accountants last year, in the interest of encouraging secondary students to pursue a career in Chartered Accounting and to build awareness of our profession in the secondary school student community.

The prestigious award has been opened to all secondary schools in WA (Perth metropolitan, regional and rural WA) where accounting is offered as a TEE subject. The school is given the discretion to adjudge the recipient, including whether it is awarded to a Year 11 or Year 12 student.

To date 22 schools have taken up this opportunity including, St Mary’s Anglican Girls School, Duncraig Senior High School, Winthrop Baptist College, Aquinas College, Churchlands Senior High School, Hale School, Cyril Jackson Senior Campus, St Stephens School, Busselton Senior High School and Mount Barker Senior High School.

The Institute of Chartered Accountant’s Regional General Manager in WA, Con Abbott, said the Award program would enhance the Institute’s profile in the secondary school market and encourage more students to further consider a career in the chartered accounting profession.

“Being a Chartered Accountants is an appealing career. Through the Chartered Accounting designation, our members are able to work all over the world in varied and exciting roles and earn significant financial rewards.
