The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) will receive development support from the Institute, CPA Australia and the National Institute of Accountants (NIA) under an arrangement accepted by the AAT membership at an Extraordinary General Meeting on 6 June 2007.
AAT is a professional body which represents para-professionals in accounting. Its 1,550 existing members include bookkeepers and accounting support staff.
Development support to be provided by the Institute and other accounting bodies will include a $1 million loan over three years at a commercial rate of interest. The three bodies will also be represented on the AAT Board.
The involvement of the three major accounting bodies will assist to ensure that accounting technicians are appropriately skilled and qualified, to the benefit of the entire profession and its clients.
