With the most comprehensive overhaul of Australia’s superannuation regime, Better Super, set to take effect from 1 July 2007 the Government has launched a media campaign to educate the public regarding the changes.

The campaign, airing on television and radio nation-wide, launched at the weekend. For details of the campaign and education material for taxpayers see the following link from the ATO's website:

The effect of the campaign will be to increase awareness regarding the super changes amongst the general population and may lead to increased inquiries for members.

In particular, the advertisements recommend taxpayers planning to change their superannuation arrangements seek professional advice.

Members are advised that they may receive an increase in inquiries regarding the super changes as a result of the Government’s campaign.

CAs are also reminded that to provide financial advice you are required to be licensed.

To support members throughout the transition period, the Institute has produced, through its training and development area, a superannuation paper,
Simpler Superannuation- New super rules for taxed funds
, which explains the impact the new super rules will have on taxed funds and includes case studies, references and definitions of law.

In addition, the Institute has developed a 40-minute, online guide explaining the Better Super legislation. The web cast was developed by the Institute’s Superannuation Consultant, Susan Orchard, who worked in close conjunction with the Government in drafting the legislation and is available at:
