Overseas Qualification

If you have overseas accounting qualifications, you may start the Chartered Accountants Program only after you have had an assessment of qualifications completed by the Institute, and the assessment letter indicates that you are eligible to enrol in the Chartered Accountants Program. You will need an assessment of qualifications if you are:

  • member of CIMA or
  • any other partially recognised overseas accounting body or
  • have tertiary (university) accounting qualifications obtained overseas. 
     
    To be eligible to enrol in the Chartered Accountants Program you must hold formal qualifications assessed as at least comparable to the level of an Australian Bachelors degree. To assess the general educational level of overseas tertiary qualifications the Institute follows the guidelines of the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR), an Australian government body. 
     
    When it has been established that the qualification is at least comparable to the level of an Australian Bachelors degree, the Institute then examines individual subjects to determine coverage of required core knowledge areas.
Application form for the assessment of qualifications for the Chartered Accountants Program entry can be downloaded below. Information about the required documents and the assessment fee are outlined on the application form. The fee charged for the assessment will be refunded upon enrolment in the Chartered Accountants Program. Please note that the assessment forms cannot be accepted by return email. 
 
When your assessment is complete, the Institute will send you a letter of assessment. The assessment letter indicates any additional study needed for the Chartered Accountants Program entry. Current processing times for qualifications assessments are available on our website. 
 
Please note that if you intend to have your qualifications assessed for migration purposes as well as for the purpose of enrolling in the Chartered Accountants Program, you will need to download another form provided for migration purposes.
