Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning (continuing students only) 
 
The Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning (available to continuing students only) provides the key knowledge and skills required in today’s financial planning regulatory environment, at a postgraduate level.  
To graduate with a qualification from Finsia Education, students must successfully complete all subjects in their course by the end of Trimester 2, 2008. 
 
This qualification provides the competencies for compliance with Australian Securities & Investments Commission’s PS 146 requirements for providing advice in financial planning, managed investments, life insurance and superannuation.  
 
Who should attend the course:  

  • Chartered Accountants seeking to meet Australian Securities & Investments Commission’s compliance requirements for licensees or authorised representatives  
  • Chartered Accountants wishing to upgrade their qualifications to a specialist postgraduate qualification in financial planning 
  • Professionals servicing the financial planning and investment planning industry  
  • New Chartered Accountant graduates.
Four compulsory one unit subjects  
C1 - Financial markets and economics (Chartered Accountants who have completed the PY/CA Program obtain a credit for this unit)  
155 - Financial planning fundamentals  
156 - Financial planning products  
157 - Financial planning skills (must be taken as the final subject) 
 
Completion of this course provides PS 146 compliance in the areas of:  
  • Managed investments  
  • Financial planning  
  • Insurance  
  • Superannuation  
  • Generic knowledge.

The Graduate certificate in financial planning aims to prepare students to:  
  • Determine the financial objectives and expectations of clients with complex needs  
  • Appraise alternate strategies relevant to a client’s needs  
  • Synthesise the concepts and practices in financial planning, managed investments, legislation, superannuation, insurance and ethics  
  • Analyse and differentiate between complex financial product types  
  • Make judgements, strategic assumptions and recommendations  
  • Articulate and justify a range of financial solutions to clients  
  • Prepare, present and negotiate a compliant financial plan  
  • Ensure you adhere to the highest ethical standards for client dealing.
