The Institute has formalised an arrangement with the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants to facilitate delivery of the Chartered Accountants Program in Malaysia.

The Institute has formalised an arrangement with the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) to facilitate delivery of the Chartered Accountants Program in Malaysia from this year.

Institute Director Mr Mel Ashton FCA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MICPA’s President Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Nordin Baharuddin in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, 24 February.

The agreement aligns with the Institute’s drive to engage in capacity building and leadership in Asia, increasing the organisation’s global reach and influence. The agreement will also enhance MICPA’s brand positioning by offering the pre-eminent Chartered Accountant qualification in Malaysia through association with the Institute.

Malaysian candidates will follow an almost identical course of study to Australian candidates. A feature of the MICPA-delivered program is the Taxation module, which will be developed and delivered by MICPA, reflecting Malaysian taxation regulations and providing greater relevance for candidates working in Malaysia.

Current Program candidates can choose to complete the Program with the Institute or transition to the new joint program from Term 3. Details of the transition pathways will be advised shortly. All new candidates from Term 3 will enrol in the joint program.

Upon completion of the Chartered Accountants Program via MICPA, candidates will be eligible to apply for membership with both the Malaysian and Australian Institutes.

With the globalisation of economies, international accounting is becoming increasingly important. As the environment and platform for reporting becomes universal, global connections are now part of everyday business. Collaborations between national accounting bodies, such as this one, will encourage high levels of education and continuous training and help equip the profession to manage the challenges of globalisation.
