The Practical Experience Line Manager Guidelines (pdf, 179KB) outline the key role and responsibilities of candidate managers including: 

  • Day to Day supervision – first point of contact 
  • Ensuring candidates have the opportunity to develop the required CA competencies in their current job-role 
  • Regular reviews of candidate logbook records, usually incorporated into existing meetings 
  • First level sign-off on logbook competencies confirming accuracy of evidence recorded 
  • Where there is a separate Chartered Accountant mentor involved, managers are not required to be a Chartered Accountant  
  • The manager and mentor role can be carried out by one person, if they are a Chartered Accountant or a member of a fully recognised overseas body
