What are the technology requirements?
Minimum technology requirements
Firewalls
Email address

The Chartered Accountants Program is a distributed learning program, which means that we communicate all important information relating to assessment, administration, activities and extension projects via the customised electronic learning portal myCA. If you do not have the technology to access the software utilised you will be unable to successfully participate in the program. We make every effort to alert candidates to technology requirements, but ultimately it is your responsibility to ensure you can access online programs, as agreed at the time of enrolment.

Minimum technology requirements are:

  • PC – Pentium 2 450MHz, 24 speed CD-ROM, 64 MB RAM, 16-bit sound card, 8MB or 16MB video card, 500 MB spare HDD, mouse, 56k modem. Note: learning programs will not run on the Macintosh platform.
  • Browser – Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or Netscape 4.7, cookies and Java enabled.
  • Reliable ISP (Internet Service Provider)
  • Email address
  • Microsoft Excel and Word software.

Firewalls

If you use your computer at work, it may be protected by a ‘firewall’ (most companies will use these), and your access to Chartered Accountants Program technology resources may be restricted. It is your responsibility to ensure that necessary permissions and clearances are obtained for Internet resources and online learning programs. If it is not possible for you to organise access at work, you will need to organise access via alternative means.
The Institute will provide software installation information to firms upon module commencement, where applicable.

Email address

You must provide accurate email contact details and ensure that these remain up to date during your progression through the Chartered Accountants Program. Changes to email details can be updated in the secure area of the Institute site. It is strongly recommended that you use an email address at home or at work that is accessible only to you to ensure that confidentiality and security of correspondence between you and the Institute can be maintained. Shared ‘generic’ work email accounts are not recommended during the Chartered Accountants Program. Web-based email addresses (e.g. hotmail) are also not recommended as junk mail filters can interfere with project submissions, the ‘sent’ boxes often do not provide proof of receipt, overseas servers do not prove time of submission and the mailbox sizes are often too small. Candidates use these email addresses at their own risk.

It is recommended that you check your system as early as possible to determine if problems exist.
