Accounting is now one of the most prestigious and rewarding professions. No longer considered just 'number crunchers', Chartered Accountants have diverse careers, they work all over the world and command impressive salaries.

And the profession is looking for people who don’t necessarily have an accounting background. Why? Because of their diverse experience and skills, and 'fresh' perspective.

The Chartered Accountants Program Australia’s premier postgraduate accounting program, has changed its entry requirements so that people with a non-accounting background can make the switch to Chartered Accounting.

Right now there’s a shortage of accountants. In Australia there are more jobs than accounting graduates. They are in demand because of their skills and their mastery of numbers and because of the rate the profession has grown and branched into new areas like forensic accounting, compliance, financial services and superannuation.

There has been an almost 400 per cent increase in demand for graduates. While the skills shortage is an everyday reality – it is a global opportunity, and this means more opportunities, more rewards and more benefits.

Broader Entry from 2007
From September 2007, graduates from non-accounting backgrounds will be given the opportunity to enrol in the Chartered Accountants Program via one of the following pathways:

  • Non-accounting entrance exam
  • Graduate Certificate in Chartered Accounting Foundations
  • Accredited conversion course.
  •

    Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant
Candidates enrolling into the Program will need to have a minimum of 26 weeks’ prerequisite qualifying work experience with a recognised Chartered Accountant mentor.

Please refer to the entry requirements for more information.

In addition to the educational requirements, a graduate also needs to meet the service requirements of the Program. If a graduate does not have the required work experience they will need to obtain this before they are eligible to enrol.

They can gain this work experience while preparing for the pilot entrance exam. Please refer to the service entry reqirements for further details.

The Chartered Accountants Program takes approximately 22 months to complete. Candidates need to have three years’mentored work experience before they can apply to become a member of the Institute.
