The Institute is inviting expressions of interest from registered higher education providers interested in providing a skilled migration internship program for accounting.
In conjunction with CPA Australia and the National Institute of Accountants the Institute has been requested by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) to develop a skilled migration internship program for accounting.
The department has introduced this option for accounting and IT graduates following important research showing that large numbers of international students who migrate to Australia have neither the English language nor the business communication skills required to find employment in the profession.
Following careful review, a joint standing committee of the three accounting bodies has agreed that the program would be best delivered by existing educational institutions. The three professional accounting bodies have been given responsibility for approving those institutions wishing to become providers of the Skilled Migration Internship Program - Accounting.
Accordingly, the three professional accounting bodies now invite expressions of interest from registered higher education providers and other training organisations wishing to become approved providers of the program.
Initial expressions of interest should be directed to applications@smipa.org.au, at which time an electronic version of the provider application document and additional program details and accreditation criteria will be made available.
