Global Accounting Alliance
The GAA is a unique global alliance of the nine professional accounting bodies from major capital markets including England and Wales, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Ireland, South Africa, Canada and the United States. Collectively, the GAA member organisations represent well over half a million accounting professionals across the globe.
As the key vehicle for the implementation of the Institute’s global strategy, the GAA continues to develop as a major competitive advantage of Institute membership, not least because graduates seeking an internationally focused career see the GAA as proof of the Institute’s ability to help them achieve that goal and support them overseas.
The current CEO of the GAA is former Institute CEO, Stephen Harrison. He and the chair, Garry Muriwai (New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants CEO) have provided strong leadership.
In June 2007, a major strategic planning workshop for the GAA Board outlined more significant commitments of time and planning by each institute. This will enable the GAA to deliver on leadership initiatives in 2008.
International Innovation Network
The IIN comprises 16 national accounting institutes from the Asia Pacific region, Europe and the Americas. It was formed in 2002 with the aim of fostering innovation and enhancing quality in the products and services offered to and by its members. The Institute is the only Australian member of the IIN, with Board representation from Deputy CEO, Elaine McFadzean.
At the IIN conference in January 2007, the Institute promoted its jobs portal to IIN members and contributed to IIN research on young members – discussing why they seek a career in accounting, their career expectations, training priorities, and expectations of their accounting institute.
The conference in June 2007 focused on careers marketing and brand strategies and saw further research and information sharing. Valuable learnings can be applied here in Australia from the American Institute’s approach to attracting young people into the profession. The Institute believes the IIN is a valuable global network that will bring more research learnings, products, services and support to members.
