The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia welcomes 2012 Queensland Regional Chair

14 February 2012

The Institute welcomes the appointment of Mr Simon Crane FCA, as Chair of the Institute’s Queensland Regional Council for 12 months, effective February 2012.

Mr Crane acknowledges that in the current economic climate, it is important that Institute members continue to be connected with each other and actively contribute not just to the profession but to the communities where they are based.

He says, 'The Regional Council's focus is to ensure the needs and contributions of our regional members are fully integrated. Our 2012 plan is focused on member engagement via a coordinated member program across the State and planning the 2013 Chartered Accountants Program delivery change. This is a State Election year and so State Advocacy and pursuing regional issues on behalf of the members will be a priority.'

Mr Crane has been a partner at KPMG, Brisbane since 1999 and has specialised in the mining and exploration industry for the last 15 years. He has been appointed to head KPMG Australia’s Energy and Natural Resources Audit Group which focuses on servicing organisations in the mining, oil and gas, power and utilities and renewable sectors.

The Institute’s Queensland General Manager, Ms Penny Ellenger, says 'Mr Crane’s expertise, and in particular his Big 4 assurance experience and resources industry knowledge bring valuable insight to the Council. We look forward to working closely with him.'

Mr Crane was elected to Council in 2003 and elected to Vice Chair in 2011.
