Accreditation of Activities
Key Points
- The Institute does not offer accreditation of activities offered to members by third party providers
- Members have the final responsibility to determine if an activity can be claimed as formal qualifying hours.
The Institute does not offer accreditation of activities offered to members by third party providers.
In fact, our Regulations expressly state that the Institute does not accredit activity as "it is the final responsibility of the professional to interpret an activity and to judge within the guidelines whether the activity was personally and professionally developing".
Regulation 7 states that members can claim an activity if it meets the following characteristics:
- an organised, orderly framework developed from a clear set of objectives;
- a structure for imparting knowledge of an educational or technical nature; and
- requires involvement by the participant.
So if training met the above criteria, it may be claimed by Institute members as forming a portion of their formal qualifying hours requirement. Members, though, would need to assess the activity themselves.
We do suggest some wording for external providers:
'Members of the Institute may claim this activity as formal qualifying hours if personally satisfied it is professionally relevant and meets the Training and Development characteristics set out in Regulation 7.'
