Water Accounting Standards Board disbanded
As a result of the recent Federal Budget, one of the cost saving measures being implemented by the Bureau of Meteorology is that it will cease work on water information standards. There will be no further development of the water accounting standards and water monitoring standards. This means that the Water Accounting Standards Board will be disbanded. The Bureau will continue to encourage adoption of its standards however the reduction in resourcing will reduce activity in the area.
The Water Accounting Standards Board’s most recent publication was ASAE 3610 /Australian Water Accounting Standard 2 Assurance Engagements on General Purpose Water Accounting Reports, released in collaboration with the Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board. Australian Water Accounting Standard 1 (AWAS1) deals with reporting volumes and values of water resources allocated and traded. More information can be found on the WASB website. This includes frequently asked questions, consultation feedback and information sheets on water accounting (information sheet 8) and assuring water reports (information sheet 14).
