Productivity Commission to study emissions reduction policy
The Productivity Commission has been asked by the Australian Government to undertake a study on the effective carbon prices that result from emissions and energy reduction policies in Australia and other key economies.
The Commission is to:
- Examine and detail key emissions reduction in Australia and other key economies
- Estimate the effective carbon price per tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent faced by the electricity generation sectors and selected industries
- Report on the methodology, assumptions and data sources used, so as to inform further analysis in this area.
In conducting their report the commission is seeking to consult with the business sector, government agencies and other interested parties both domestically and internationally. It is expected to be published in May 2011 and interested readers may visit the Productivity Commission’s media release for more details.
