Client consent letter

When the reviewer first visits the practice they choose a number of clients for detailed file review based on a cross section of work for the practice. The Institute requires that practices write to clients to notify them that the reviewer has requested access to their files and to obtain their consent.  To ensure that an adequate number of files is available, the practice needs to seek clearance on more engagement files than the reviewer may actually review.

To help make these requests, the Institute has prepared a standard letter which practices may copy, or adapt for their own use.

Involving clients by obtaining their consent to file reviews is an essential stage of a quality review, as it enables the reviewer to determine whether the practice's quality control system is being applied in practice. Clients are encouraged to contact their practice or the Institute’s quality review team if they have any concerns they would like to discuss.
