APES 230 - background information

The Accounting Professional and Ethical Standards Board (APESB) is an independent body that develops professional and ethical standards for accountants who are members of one of the three professional accounting bodies (the Institute, CPA Australia and the National Institute of Accountants).

In June 2010, the APESB issued Exposure Draft APES 230 – Financial Advisory Services  which discusses standards for members who offer financial advisory services. The Institute responded to the Exposure Draft in a submission to the APESB.

In December, the APESB announced an extension of the consultation period and proposed start date of the new standard, in order to properly review the 65 submissions it received in response to the draft.

In 2011 the APESB continues to meet to discuss the submissions and will launch a Stakeholder Engagement Plan to guide its consultations.

The Institute continues to engage with the APESB about the proposed standard and the potential impacts on its members. For the most up-to-date information, visit the Financial Advisory Services section on our website.
