Examining the biggest issues facing the economy and industry this year, Business Forum will focus on harnessing the window of opportunity in a recovering economy. The aim is to provide technically relevant sessions and quality professional development that will keep members at the cutting edge of an ever-competitive economy.

The overriding theme for Business Forum is ‘Big Issues, Small World’ which captures the need to embrace global issues facing society today while applying them to everyday business.
Some of the topics and speakers that will be covered include:

Economy

In 2010 the world faces a mountain of challenges. Many economies are still lying low in recession, while others are just beginning the long climb to recovery.
Former Chief Economist at ANZ Bank, Saul Eslake will provide the latest update on the economy and an insight to the past year which has shown the Australian economy to have strength and resilience compared to that of other counties.

Corporate social responsibility

The planet is getting warmer while resources such as water are becoming scarce. Businesses need to be mindful of their corporate, social and environmental responsibilities as key drivers of the way business is conducted today.

With South Australia’s plan for economic and population growth all coming down to the mission of critical water supply, a panel will discuss the framework, vital services and cost to businesses needed to ensure the future plans of South Australia remain strong. This panel includes Research Chair Water Economics and Management School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Professor Mike Young; Rob Freeman, Chief Executive of the new Murray Darling Basin Authority and Institute General Manager of Leadership and Quality, Lee White.

Technical

The conference provides 80 per cent technical content to ensure members are up-to-date on the latest technical accounting issues. Institute experts will provide some of the essential updates on the Henry Review and differential reporting.
