Q: What is involved in the marking process?

A: Projects are assessed in accordance with the specific criteria provided at the beginning of each module and assessed by a marking panel at one location and over one weekend.

Before marking commences, all members of the panel meet to discuss the project ensuring all members understand the marking criteria. Then each member of the panel individually marks the same project.

Once each member of the panel has marked the same project, the panel re-groups to discuss the results and any areas of the criteria that require further clarification. This process is repeated until all members of the panel are marking consistently.

Each marker is then assigned a batch of Projects to mark. During the marking process, a minimum of 10% of papers are audited. This means that one of the marking auditors independently assesses a paper without any knowledge of the mark already assigned to the project by the original marker. If a discrepancy exists between the original mark and the auditor’s mark, both markers review the paper and come to a consensus view. If necessary, a second auditor may be asked to mark the project as well.
