The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, CPA Australia and the National Institute of Accountants along with other professional accountancy organisations worldwide are recognising the 30th anniversary of the founding of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the global organisation for the accountancy profession, which represents 155 member bodies and associates in nearly 120 countries.

The culminating event of this year’s anniversary celebrations will be World Accountancy Week, to be held 2-8 December 2007. During World Accountancy Week, IFAC will announce the results of a Global Leadership Survey on issues facing the accountancy profession, which, in turn, affect economic growth and development in Australia.

The Institute, CPA Australia and the NIA are all members of IFAC and the 30th anniversary is an opportunity to recognise the role accountants play as experts in finance and business acumen that has helped and supported the sustained period of economic growth Australia continues to enjoy.

Since IFAC’s founding, the profession in Australia and internationally has grown tremendously not only in size, but also in areas of expertise and influence. Businesses, governments, international organisations and others have called on members of the profession to provide an expanding range of services from tax and auditing to business management and financial planning.

Economic growth has also fuelled an expansion in roles for accountants, with forensic accounting becoming popular against the traditional auditor and partner positions across the globe.
