2009-2011 strategic framework for The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia

We have talked about the impact of the global economic downturn on the Institute and how we are responding to that. An important part of our response is in developing our business and action plans for next year.

The first step in our planning process was to review our strategy for the 2009 - 2011 period and at its meeting in December, the Board signed off on the new Strategic Plan.

So, why do we have a strategic plan? Because it helps us to:

  • Allocate resources
  •
  • Prioritise initiatives
  •
  • Make considered decisions across divisions
So, what are the changes?

While there are not a lot of actual changes in the plan, there are some important features that the Board wants to emphasise.

Our key areas of focus for 2009/10 are:
  • Protection of revenues and cost minimisation in the period of the economic downturn
  •
  • CA Program (delivery review and reduction in 26 week service prerequisite)
  •
  • Global positioning and GAA (in particular GAA designation)
  •
  • Implementation of Asia strategy phase one – offering
  •
  • The CA Program with the Malaysian Institute of CPAs (MICPA) and leadership
  •
  • Leadership positioning and supporting Institute members in the global economic downturn
